Visit the Castillo De San Marcos National Monument with your leashed dog. Purchased by the United States from the Spanish in 1821, the historic front was build from 1672 to 1695 and once primarily served as the Spanish Empire post that gaurded St. Augustine. Its secondary purpose was to protect the sea route for Spanish treasure ships and it was never taken by force. This park is situated on 25 acres along the waterfront and the fort was declared a national monument in 1924. Dogs are not permitted inside the buildings or the fort and leashes must not exceed six feet in length.
