Fort Matanzas National Monument consists of a 1740 Spanish fort named Fort Matanzas. Coastal Florida was a major field of conflict as European nations fought for control in the New World. Come and learn fascinating history. Pets are welcome on the beach and trails but must be kept on a six foot leash. Pets are not permitted on the boat, inside the visitor center or at the fort. Clean up after your pets and do not leave them inside your vehicle as temperatures can rise quickly.
