Four Points by Sheraton Hotel & Conference Centre Gatineau-Ottawa

Positives: Location and service

Positives: If you are planning on visiting Ottawa or the Ottawa region, this hotel is a very fine alternative to the many choices in the downtown area. The rooms are very spacious, immaculately clean, comfortably carpeted, furnished in a aesthetically pleasing manner, and provide a nice view of the Gatineau riverfront. I chose a room with a single king bed and a sofa and especially appreciated the very long expanse of the desk and the cabinet, which stretched across much of the room’s wall area, providing me with ample space to lay out my things. The real draw of the hotel is its outstanding location — right across the street from the Canadian Museum of History (which, despite the very disappointing renovation of its formerly excellent Canada Hall, still remains Ottawa’s most interesting museum, especially when it hosts special exhibitions on a European theme). One can leave one’s jacket and belongings in one’s hotel room, cross the street and tour the museum at will — even return to the hotel and come back to the museum, if the need arises. Plus, the National Gallery and Parliament Hill are just a short (and enjoyable) walk away across the nearby Alexandra Bridge. And at night, the view of Parliament picturesquely illuminated across the river is one of the most memorable sights in the Ottawa area. Breakfast is as good as one would expect, with not only eggs and bacon on offer but also sauteed vegetables and potatoes. Parking is extra but always available: if the above-ground lot fills up, additional space is on offer in an underground garage on site. Better still, even after the 11:00 check-out time, one can still leave one’s car in the lot on check-out day at no additional cost till 17:00. All in all, I can avidly recommend this hotel for both shorter and longer stays.
