When we arrived the front was under construction w no sign to tell us where to check in. I had to call to find out where to go inside. When we got to our room, after driving 11 hours bc of traffic, we pulled back the comforter and there was hair and stains on the sheets and makeup on the pillows. I went to the desk and asked for new sheets and explained the reason why. The person at the desk responded by saying,"Oh no, sorry. I'll have some brought up to you soon. We went to eat and came back 2 hours later, nothing had been done. I went back downstairs and said please just give me sheets, I'll change them myself. I am exhausted and would like to lay down. He said ok, I'll get them for you. He returned with the sheets and I changed them myself. The electric shade on the window would not move when we pushed the button to put it down at first, finally 5 min later it was down far enough to keep the light out but went back up in the middle of the night by itself. The air conditioner sounded like a motorcycle when it was running. We were too tired to go back down to the desk to let them know. For the cost of the room we expect better, yes we could have asked for another room but he could have also offered another room. There was another man that worked there that looked very stressed out taking care of others that looked to be irritated also. When I went to check out the next morning. The manager was the one who checked me out. She asked if I was checking out and if I needed a receipt. I could go on and on but I am sure you get the jist of this. We will not be returning to this hotel.

I was charged for both the room and the preauthorization. When I called the facility, I was told it wasn't their problem and I needed to dispute the charge with my bank. Doing so meant I had to cancel my debit card, which is a problem when you're traveling.

Room was filthy, really filthy! Countertops and tables in room all had coffee cup-type stains and were visibly dirty. The area around the coffee maker and microwave were especially dirty with crumbs and stains. The bathroom floor had dark patches and after taking a shower and stepping off the drying floor mat, my damp feet picked up so much dirt that I left brown footprints on the floor mat when re-stepping on it. The room floor was the same. Disgusting! By far the worst Hilton Garden Inn we have ever stayed in, in fact, one of the worst hotels we have ever stayed in.

We liked the proximity of the hotel to the airport & cruise port, which was our destination. Hotel shuttle was great, local shopping & dining was quite sufficient. Separate company on site for cruise port shuttle. Pool was very nice & onsite restaurant was good.
Negatives:
The hotel has been refurbished & overall quite well done. The elevators could be spruced up a bit on the inside. We stayed on a Thursday & Friday night. The room rate was $200+ for the first night and jumped to $400 for the second night. I feel this is price gouging that is geared for the cruise ship customer who are awaiting their departures on Sat. $200 a night is the high end for the room. For the many Canadians who are using the hotel there is a 40% exchange rate to add on. Granted I was aware of the approximate cost for 2 nights.65
