Positives:
Breakfast was nothing special. Parking was $40 per night, but they let us use it late in the day on our day of checkout, which was a huge advantage. Close to Portland State University, which was the purpose of our trip.

Nicely designed lobby and outside area. Staff was professional and courteous.
Negatives:
Our room was stuffy even with air conditioning and window opened. Housekeeping never made up our room even though we alerted them that we wanted our room made up.

Room was spacious enough, good lobby, good extra features (borrow a bike!)

Exceptional
Positives:
Fantastic location in Downtown Portland, really groovy shared spaces, from lounge cafe/bar to semi covered outdoor patio, but especially the spacious and very well thought out game room!
Pool table, shuffleboard, darts, giant connect four, jenga and many board/card/dice and wooden checkers type games, it made a bright place on a rainy afternoon.
They also have a huge locker of lendable gear, from cruiser bikes and helmets to video game consoles, binoculars, yoga mats and guitars.
Our king room was small, but the bed luxurious, and the city/patio view out a large window made us cozy instead of cramped.
All the staff was pleasant and helpful, front desk to cafe servers to maids.
We came back muddy from biking along the river, and the room was made up in the evening for us off schedule- including the free bottles of water provided on check in.
I’ll be returning to The Zags next time I’m in Portland.

I didn't like being texted for favourable reviews, I didn’t like that the included breakfast was not stocked enough to last through the whole period it was supposed to be available. I didn’t like additional fees on the final bill for what seemed like access to common areas or something. All fees should be on the booking site. That way if you are comparing by price you won’t be surprised.
