Tucker Talks with Twiddy & Company

If your furkid loves the surf and sand as much as I do, then be sure to check out Twiddy & Company’s dog-friendly vacation rentals in North Carolina’s spectacular Outer Banks.

The beautiful beaches of the Outer Banks are perfect for a family vacation, including furry family members. Twiddy & Company has over 1000 beach houses...and 339 are pet friendly! You’ll find homes that welcome pets in Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills, Southern Shores, Duck, Corolla, and the 4x4 beaches.

I recently chatted with my friend Sandy, a Vacation Specialist at Twiddy & Company, to learn more about their vacation homes and how they welcome us four-legged guests.

Tucker:  I typically travel with just my fur siblings and my Mom and Dad. So, we don’t need a huge home. What are your offerings as far as the size of your vacation rentals?

Sandy:  Our pet-friendly vacation homes range from classic 2-bedroom beach cottages to luxurious 28-bedroom retreats.  So we can accommodate pets and their people, no matter how many are traveling!

Tucker:  What is your pet policy and do all of your 339 pet-friendly vacation homes have the same rules?

Sandy:  Let’s start with - pets stay for free!  AND...there are no breed or weight restrictions.

The number of pets allowed varies by property. Generally, two pets are permitted for each reservation. However, some homeowners choose to allow one dog only and other homeowners will allow additional pets upon request.

As far as the types of pets allowed…only dogs are permitted.

Tucker:  Do you offer any special pet perks or amenities?

Sandy:  As you well know, our beaches are dog friendly!  Frolicking in the surf and sand equals salty and sandy dogs.  All homes have a garden hose to spray sand off our furry guests before going into the home. Our vacation home Orange Moon (T22016) even offers a designated dog wash station!

Tucker:  What sets Twiddy & Company apart from other pet-friendly vacation rentals?

Sandy:  We have more vacation homes than any other vacation rental company on the Outer Banks. That means a wider variety of homes to choose from when planning your vacation.

Tucker:  I love that your selection of pet-friendly homes are in five different cities in the Outer Banks. Is there one particular city that is a “stand out” as far as being the most pet friendly?

Sandy:  The town of Duck, NC, is particularly welcoming to dogs, as it is one of the top ten dog-friendly beach towns in the United States.

Dogs are allowed to play on the beach and frolic in the Atlantic Ocean unleashed year-round under owner supervision. The heart of the town of Duck, where the majority of restaurants, shopping, and entertainment options are located, is pedestrian and dog-friendly, with sidewalks and a soundside boardwalk. Leashed dogs are allowed to enjoy a stroll on the soundside boardwalk or an event on the town green. Many of the local businesses have outdoor areas with evening entertainment, and leashed dogs are welcome to attend with their owners. Dogs and their owners are even invited to walk in the town’s annual 4th of July Parade.

Tucker:  I’m a water dog, but sometimes I like to mix it up a bit. Are there other pet-friendly things to do in the area?

Sandy:  The Outer Banks is a very pet-friendly place. In addition to the beach, there are also dog parks located in Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, and Nags Head. Dog-friendly sidewalks and nature trails are found throughout the area. Dogs and their parents can explore a new area each day of their vacation. Outer Barks in Duck makes homemade dog treats in their store, and they also sell dog art and collectibles. Outer Barks has also traditionally offered a dog “yappy hour”.

Be sure to book your next beach trip with Twiddy & Company.  They take good care of us furry guests!  Twiddy LOVES to see photos of dogs on vacation! Whether they’re playing on the beach or catching an afternoon nap on the deck, please share them on their Facebook page: @TwiddyOuterBanks

Safe Travels!
