Had stayed at the Argonaut many years ago and wanted to stay again. Had an all night flight from Tokyo and was exhausted when we arrived in San Francisco. We had to pay $79 to check in early at the hotel but needed to sleep so we paid it, but did not expect that.

Location very convenient. Room average size and bed comfy.
Negatives:
Customer service either very good or very poor. Reception on arrival quite brusque, I had to ask for a map and was given it with an arrow for where the hotel located but no offers of explaining where key sights were, transport etc. Luckily we are very good at doing things for ourselves. Doormen - chap with white hat very helpful. Tall thin chap - didn't acknowledge us or offer to help us/open door when coming/going. Concierge pretty useless had no idea of tours of what hotel offered even though we referenced their web site.
