Positives:
Location is great, very close to Beverly Hills, many nice cafes and restaurants on Sunset Boulevard. Not many homeless people around - big plus too. The room itself was quite spacious, with enough space for a family of 4.
Nice pool on the roof top - our kids enjoyed it very much.
Negatives:
The hotel is a bit dated. I stayed there 6 years ago and was very impressed, so decided to go back this year.
I think it needs a bit of refurbishment by now. There are several other newly built and modern hotels nearby, which can be a little more expensive but worth it - I also stayed in one of them and it was better experience.
Breakfast was very, very basic and I believe it's always the same with limited choice of options. Perhaps making a twist and offering different types of breakfasts few times a week would help a bit.

There was a power outage on our first night. Not only was that unnerving for the children but it meant we had to walk up 6 flights of stairs to reach our room as the elevators were out, we had to use flashlights in the washroom, could not charge our phones - very scary experience. Moreover, the minibar sink had mould / fungus growing in it, which we pointed out to reception but it was still never cleaned during our stay. Breakfast service was slow, the spread was underwhelming (only a tasteless frittata and boiled potatoes for hot selection). I also found the reception staff condescending and arrogant (esp when I complained to them).

Positives:
This is a lovely hotel with massive rooms. The bathroom was beautifully tiled like a Roman bath. The pool area was very nice and the bar and breakfast room were comfortable. The complementary breakfast was a nice touch. Staff were very nice, esp those who were working the valet/ door. There were always tons of cars but they made sure everything ran smoothly.
Negatives:
These are minor complaints and only because this is 5* hotel and fairly pricey- the in-room amenities could have been better, with slippers and nicer bath products. The cash wet bar was a bit tacky. A hotel of this caliber should offer complementary bottled water, not insanely marked up booze and snacks. The room was clean but not super clean. In an all white bathroom, every little spot shows. Mattress could be improved.
