Terrible hotel! We read a lot of good reviews and decided to choose it. This was a big mistake.
The rate of the hotel maximum 3*, not 5* at all. We were shocked that there was no cleaning at all. After their cleaning we had pieces of food on the floor, rubbish, towels were dirty, bathroom was dirty as well. So you are literally checking into the dirty room after previous guests. Shock!
The hotel is also being renovated, so all the upper floors are covered with a construction grid and you will not have any view. About which no one warns of course.
The hotel itself very old, mattresses so old and has no shape, seems they don’t change them at all. The pillows are very not comfortable, for sure you can’t choose another. The furnitures so old and shabby.
But of course, all of this is not as important as dirt, unsanitary conditions and lack of cleaning.

Terrible hotel!
Positives:
The whole experience was exceptional.From the moment you arrive you are cared for by such lovely friendy and caring staff. The painted ceilings are truely breathtaking and the lift interior is stunning. You are escorted in the lift every time you call it. The room. is huge and sumptous with everything you could possible need provided. This is a proper old school hotel and worth every penny.
Im visually impaired and this was my first trip away in many years and they we fantastic at helping me whenever i asked. The attached restaurant which has been open since 1927 is wonderful from breakfast through to dinner.
If im ever able to i would definatly stay here again.
I would like to thank the housekeeping lady who was so kind and caring.

A truely unique and magical hotel wiyh so much history. The staff are amazing. Nothing is too much trouble. They know you by name. So frienfly snd helpful. The pictures dont do justice to the srtwork on the ceilings or the lifts. The room is amazingly appointed with everything and more that you could need. The beds are dupurbly comfortsbke. The hotel is at the top of 5 th ave opp central park so perfect. They sre very dog friendly too.
If im able to return to NY it will be the only place i would stsy.
The restaurant attached is supurb from breakfast through to dinner and evetything inbetween.
