It was dirty. Chairs are ripped. Couches are filthy and ripped, and rugs are covered in dirt and stain. All in the lobby. There are no tables or chairs for the dining area. I said to the front desk guy, does your rooms look like your lobby? I asked to look at the rooms before staying there. I don't know how old the beds are, but I didn't want to take a chance, especially since the couch in the room was velvet from maybe 1950's. The front desk guy could just tell me the building was old. I've been in many old motels, but they have painted and upgraded furniture in the room. Finally, I told the guy I wasn't staying. It was pretty disgusting.

The rooms and hotel generally are in desperate need of renovation. Everything looked tired and only one lift was working. Also, whilst the breakfast on offer was reasonably good, it is cheap and bad for the environment to provide only plastic cutlery and paper plates.

It was exceptionally clean, and while my original room was in need of a bit of a renovation, it was spotless; furthermore, when I brought up the small issues about the room at the front desk, I was promptly moved to a new, more updated room! On that note, the staff was amazing - I didn’t ask to be moved and the whole thing came up because they were genuinely interested in my opinion while I was getting my parking tag. Also, a bus stop is right outside the front door, $4.45 round trip with senior discount! I don’t know why I’ve insisted on staying on Manhattan every trip so far - this was so much better!
Negatives:
Not property related, and truly nitpicking - I went to use the pool in the evening, but decided against it as there were many very loud kids. Considering that it’s one of 2 hotels in the price range that even have a pool, and that pool was an unexpected bonus and not a factor in booking, and that it is a family place, after all, the only reason I’m mentioning it is for those hoping for a spa-like serenity - it may not happen :)
