Positives:
The staff were friendly and responsive. The location was fantastic, and the room was clean and comfortable (though quite compact). Overall, a great value!
Negatives:
I would have preferred having the ability to make coffee and tea in my room (versus having to go downstairs to the lobby during certain hours in the morning), but it really was not a problem.

It was decent enough as a place to crash and it was clean. The gym was updated, small but clean. The workers were nice. Coffee was offered daily in the lobby.
Negatives:
The promotional photos really made this look far more luxurious than it is. If you expect the vibes you see in all of their photos you will be disappointed. If you just need a place to crash on a budget, it's fine. The neighborhood was okay for me being from another big city but others may feel unsafe. It is the place where street life is corralled kind of.

Positives:
Beautiful historic hotel, lovely contemporary room fitout. Spero is well located for linking into the BART, the various buses and even the cable car. The staff are lovely, and happy to point you the way to wherever you need to cover your travel logistics.
Negatives:
It's a shame there's not a laundry facility onsite - though the SF Rinse/ Hideaway Cafe is nearby and a great spot for a coffee while your washing spins :) Yes there is some homelessness in SF, and a block west of the hotel is a little confronting in the early morning around the bus stops. It shouldn't stop you choosing the Spero.
