Sofitel Montreal Golden Mile

Negatives: Hotel is being renovated so the bar, restaurant and gym are closed. Upon mentioning that we weren’t informed about this, the receptionist said that they cannot email people who booked via third party platforms. There was an awkward silence when we said they actually recently emailed us via booking.com to offer us a paid upgrade. The breakfast was poor, very basic selection as served in a makeshift conference room made into a breakfast hall. Drilling noises started at 8.40am while we were having breakfast and iz was loud. Room was rundown, there was hair was in the shower, toilet had a stain that first made us think was it a permanent stain or the toilet was not cleaned after the last guest. Part of the ceiling right above the toilet was deteriorating, presumably caused by a previous leak of some kind. Far away from a 5 star hotel and a huge dissapointment.

Negatives: I chose this property due to the location and fitness center, but was a bit frustrated to learn that the fitness center was closed due to renovation.

Negatives: No lobby, gymn, restaurant and many facilities out because of construction

Negatives: The property was under renovation so none of the amenities I wanted were available but the price of the hotel stay was the same and o want not informed when booking that this was the case, I might not have chosen to go there if I had know . (Ie: gym, spa, bar etc)

Negatives: I felt it was overpriced since they are under renovations no restaurant available was under renovations. The breakfast that did come with the reservation was not what I expected not good at all! I had to ask for a second cup of coffee . Not happy at all with the service!

Negatives: I did not appreciate being informed about the renovations after making my booking. That just felt wrong

Negatives: Any amenity

Negatives: It was by no means what one would expect from a five star hotel and taking the price into consideration. The room decoration was somewhat dated and the "double" beds were too small for two regular people. There were a lot of hidden costs that you are not made aware of at the reception. There is a booklet hidden in one of the cabinets that explains those (e.g. you can't use the fridge for personal items because you will be automatically charged due to the sensor technology that changes you when you move anything out of place). The breakfast price per person does not include the coffee so you are charged extra even for the small amount of plain filter coffee they come by and serve (no prior mention that this is not included in the fixed breakfast price per person, which is not typically the case at any other reputable hotel we have stayed in). The price of the breakfast is especially extravagant considering the very uninspiring offering at the buffet. You are much better off eating at a restaurant. You will get much better food at much better price. Additionally, there were three of us on the room reservation and they only gave us complimentary items for 2 people so we had to mention this to the reception to accommodate the 3rd person. Finally, after you book, they spam your inbox with offers to book another stay.

Negatives: Green apples were not there every day. View was not great for the price.

Negatives: The hotel is under renovation and that fact was only communicated in an email sent a few days before my stay titled: we can’t wait to welcome you. The information was buried in the body of the email which I didn’t read as the title did not indicate that the lobby and restaurant are both under construction. I had planned drinks with my brother on the night of my arrival and a breakfast with a work colleague the next morning. Both had to be relocated to venues outside the hotel. I spoke to reception and got conflicting stories about the temporary breakfast room where only a buffet was available. I explained that I had hoped for the regular breakfast menu and was told that I could order individual items, but only in my room. Not appropriate for a work meeting! Twice, I was told that a manager would be informed of my disappointment and that I would receive an email communication. I have yet to be contacted. The title of the email should have been: we are renovating and please read. If I had known, I would not had stayed this time around. I felt deceived. Having said that, the room was comfortable and the location is unbeatable.

Negatives: the hotel lobby is undergoing a major renovation when we arrived so we are unable to get the full experience
