Positives: Location was incredible! Close to the fun in Del Mar village but far enough from the nightlife and traffic to have a great nights sleep and walk to the village again for breakfast The staff is phenomenal. From check-in to check-out. Very friendly, helpful and just made us feel welcome and wanted at their property. They even had a welcome gift for our Doggo! This place is dog-friendly and they show it.
Negatives: The gym could use some love (lighting and water cooler) but seriously, why get on a cardio machine when you can run on the beach!?! It would be nice to have a selection of free weights, but this is the next-level of a next-level suggestion because honestly, the place is great

Negatives: Horrible front desk staff that lied after giving my king room away, saying that a double queen was roomier and had a magnificent view. Both statements were patently false. The hotel is blocks away from the beach and at best the rooms have a partial ocean view all views are largely obstructed. Having booked a 5 night stay in a king room, they chose to give my room away and expected me to be happy with a much inferior room. The manager gave lame excuses - we’re busy, the old ‘we overbooked’ but finally admitted he gave my room away. He denied it was because I used Booking.com but I didn’t believe him. It’s yet another example of the travel industry holding their customers hostage by denying them what they booked, especially during a busy tourist season when it’s impossible to find alternative lodging. Front desk staff also essentially called me a liar when they offered to send toiletries to my uncleaned room. Having stayed in 2 rooms already, I remarked there hadn’t been toiletries in either room. Staff got very testy, raised his voice and claimed it’s not possible, clearly implying I was lying. Another example of poor housekeeping. After being forced to stay one night in the double queen room, complete with moldy shower, I was told by the front desk they would call management when I requested help moving my luggage. I waited over 20 min for someone to come. Note this is not a big hotel. They get zero on customer service. Rooms don’t have a safe; the air conditioner works but is very loud. The shower door opens inches away from the toilet in a closet-sized room. I’m a size 6 and had to squeeze into the shower. The website brags the bar was renovated - the only upgrade in rooms appears to be dim, led lighting. Very spotty housekeeping - sticky night stand wasn’t wiped and if you sleep in and keep your Do not Disturb sign on past 11 am you’re unlikely to get service as apparently they don’t do a 2nd pass. Or provide ‘housekeeping’ door knob tags.

Positives: parking was easy. not much else to add to our pleasure except to drive over to dog beach
Negatives: The room was ugly and lacking any charm. No easy chair or sofa. No beautiful view. The bathroom lacked a vanity or extra sink or space for cosmetics. The "Happy Hour" price for a martini was over seventeen dollars. Upon arrival the hotel announced an added pet fee of ninety five dollars despite having confirmed our rate total at $406 and knowledge that we had a dog. The entire property needs an upgrade if the desire is to provide a luxury stay.
