Positives:
The room was comfortable, very well appointed and supplied, and was spotlessly clean. The kitchen area had everything one would need. The room had a good air and temperature system and everything in the room worked well (nothing damaged or broken). The cleaning staff did a great job. The bed was super comfortable, the bathroom spacious and spotless with nice products supplied and plenty of towels.
The hotel facility was very nice in general and had nicely designed common spaces. The breakfast area is laid out so there isn't overcrowding or long waits to get to anything. The cook to order kitchen staff were friendly and offered two cook to order entrees each morning. There were many types of juices, regular and decaf coffees, and a good variety of breakfast foods and fruits. Also a nice self serve espresso machine as is common in European hotels. The breakfast staff were all very helpful and genuinely nice to guests and very service oriented. The pool area on the 3rd floor is really nice and had lounges and a comfy large sofa area. The pool is only 3 feet deep, so not for lap swimming, but pleasant for guests, with restrooms and showers, and all very attractive and clean.
Negatives:
The staff first visible when guests walk into the hotel are the reception area person and the bartender. The reception person that was there most evenings of my 8 day stay was not personable, never smiled, never greeted or acknowledged me or spoke to me unless I approached to take care of a purchase or ask a question. They had no facial affect whatsoever. The other desk staff during the day were constantly on their smart phone, or there was no one present in the lobby whatsoever. It was just deserted. The bartender was also constantly on their smart phone when I came and went, except one evening when a couple folks were seated at the bar and I ordered a drink, the bartender interacted with us all, made a great drink for me, and was super pleasant. Another night the bartender wasn't there when I went over to order a drink and the reception person said the bartender hadn't called in or showed up for work and there was no one else. I paid for parking for each night of my stay, but all the onsite parking spaces were taken one of the nights and I had to park elsewhere. When I checked out I asked the reception person if I could have one night of parking taken off my bill. The person said they could not help me as they had no authority to change anything in my "folio" and that manager would not be available for two days. Clearly the standards for reception and overall perception needs a turnaround. The manager would do well to retrain staff and have the staff visit a couple hotels in the area to see basic hospitality practices. When I looked at reviews from several years past, these lobby staff issues were listed again and again, yet I still experienced them. It's unnerving to walk into a large hotel and have absolutely no staff present in the lobby during the day on two occasions. Perhaps they were helping someone on one of the upper floors, and in that case things are understaffed. Anyone can go up the elevators.
