We had to move room twice. The 1st room had a very bad smell of smoke & the smoke alarm was detached from the wall. The 2nd room also smelt very bad - even the porter agreed. We eventually settled on a room on the 3rd floor. It didn’t smell as bad - slightly musty. The room was dark and dated. Dark brown carpets that we wouldn’t walk on barefoot. The communal areas were shabby and needed to be refurbished. Breakfast was of poor quality- pastries were like cardboard. We had to enter our corridor via a corridor at the back of the hotel, it was dark and damp. Very bad experience.

The hotel is undergoing a large refurbishment and although our room was excellent, other parts of the hotel were just 'okay'.
Negatives:
The refurbishment was a bit of a distraction resulting ion the evening experience being just adequate. We were offered an upgrade to one of the newly refurbished suites that meant our room wouldn't be in the middle of a building site. We think we should have been offered a free upgrade as we were completely unaware of the extensive refurbishments when booking several months ago. The room we upgraded to was really excellent.

The room's pullout was too small and could use a better mattress.

The room is exceptional. The bedroom is spacious, with comfortable beds. The linen is top quality. The bathroom is an experience on its own. Heated toilet seat, with a walk-in shower room and lovely designs. All very modern.
Negatives:
The breakfast is extremely poor quality. The pancakes were dry with semi-frozen berries in them. The coffee is extremely bad as well.

Exceptional hotel but food not...
Positives:
Friendly check-in staff. Given the comments below, we decided not to stay in the hotel however the reception staff were very understanding and accommodating and provided an immediate refund.
Negatives:
The hotel is located next to 2 major highways and about a 15 minute walk into Napa itself. There was a lot of construction work on site. The complex is quite dated and not very well maintained. The Hilton brand in the USA is not as high spec as it is in UK and felt very much like a low budget option
