Motel 6-Thousand Oaks CA

Negatives: On a blistering hot day with record-setting temperatures the air conditioning throughout the property had broken down. There was no reason given by the staff as to why the AC was non-functioning. The rooms were hot and humid. At the time of my arrival it was cooler outside than inside the rooms. This was almost a deal-breaker as I knew sleep would be challenging in a hot room. Had it been safe, I would've kept the door to my room open all night while I slept. I could've requested a refund like many travelers that night but it was 11pm and I was tired after a long drive and needed to be up early the next day. As it turned out, it was well after midnight before I could finally get settled in for the night, and I was checked out of my room before 6:45am. It was hardly a visit I would otherwise remember, but with the AC not working it became a stay I will forever be reminded of.

Negatives: The beds were hard, there was no mini fridge in the room, the water pressure wasn’t that good.

Negatives: No A/C THE beds were hard as rocks.The Air Condition was broken. Not a good thing when it's 90 degrees outside at 8pm...the beds felt like I was at camp sleeping on a thin hard mattress on springs.... horrible. Had to go buy a fan to be able to stay. Unfortunately I had no choice but to stay there because everything else was booked or 3 times the price.

Negatives: Rooms are small and modestly equipped.

Negatives: The A/C barely worked. When I called the front desk, they were not much of a help. They did not even have a spare fan to send to our room, and the front desk said he was the only one on the property at that time, meaning there was no maintenance 24/7. It was so hot in the middle of the night that I had to "Uber Eats" from CVS a fan because we were sweating a lot. The outside was colder than the room.

Negatives: Smaller rooms, smells cigarette.

Negatives: Bathroom and sink area

Negatives: The air conditioning during such a hot time of year was abysmal. It would cool off for a short time before being akin to the temperature outside, regardless of leaving it on, or turning it off and back on again when we returned from being out. Our friends' room was worse, providing little to no cooling affect no matter what they tried. The plumbing was equally disappointing, even to flush just some tissue you need to do once and then wait a few minutes and do again. And on occasion, a third flush was needed. Seems like such a thoughtless waste of water in our current climate. We requested a fridge towards the end of our first day (which we incorrectly assumed would be present in the rooms), it had blue tape that read WORKING on the top, but after a day of being plugged in, it did not work. We called and were grateful that a worker could bring us a new one in the morning. I can't stress enough how lovely all of our employee interactions were. Every day we went to get ice, multiple times a day, and it was out. Just one ice machine in a hot climate for that many rooms is ridiculous. And then to also charge extra for an insufficient amount of fridges to rooms is just cruel and exploitative. When I was younger, my family and I stayed many times in a Motel 6. I never felt like it was a bottom of the barrel option. But it seems that way now. Disgruntled guests will inevitably take their frustrations out on your staff, and why make that many people suffer when you could invest in superficial things like ice machines, mini fridges, and air. It may just be a highly outdated location, but I have a feeling the Motel 6 brand suffered much loss during covid as many others did. I know it's cheap enough, one opinion will never change anything and your location will continue to turn and burn both your guests and employees alike, but I'm still let down enough that I wont be returning to this location or any other.
