After reading reviews of similar hotels in the area this one stood out for having very little negative. And I would agree nothing negative about the hotel. Great location to pier 39, Alcatraz landing and north beach all within walking distance.

Location. Comfort. Security. Close to Fisherman’s wharf activity and restaurants.

Room location on second floor with HVAC units outside building and close to street. To be fair we accepted the room as a choice for early check in.

Excellent value at Fisherman’s Wharf
Positives:
Great location and located in close proximity to the finest places in SFO. The record player in the room was very nice to have and we could borrow more records from the front desk.
Negatives:
At the time of booking no upfront information was shared pertaining to security deposit required per day. At the time of check-in, we were asked to pay $125 security deposit per day. We were staying for 5 nights, and we were just prepared to be able to pay $625 upfront in addition to the room tariff. It left us with a little sum to go around for the next few days.
There can be very easy solutions to this by either making this more apparent in your booking.com listings, or a pre check-in notification. It won't be ideal for any customer to discover the charge you want as a security deposit at the very last minute.
The staff member who checked us in seemed very little aware about the refund details for security deposit, and hotel amenities fees (what those were and what they constituted).
This is not an ideal vacation experience for me, and it feels more unwelcoming when coming from the other side of the world.

Has a sense of a new hotel, very keen staff. Location close to Fisherman's Wharf which has become more grubby and sad since our last visit.
Valet parking with helpful staff, at a price!!
