The Econo Lodge hotel is located near historic downtown Canon City, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and within walking distance to a variety of attractions. The Fremont County Airport is eight miles from the hotel. From the world's highest suspension bridge, the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, to the mild white waters of the Arkansas River and from rock climbing to Wild West frontier town adventure, many things await visitors in the Royal Gorge region. Enjoy traveling through the Royal Gorge canyon area via the historic Royal Gorge Route Railroad, located across the street from the hotel. The Dinosaur Depot Museum is located in the Garden Park Fossil Area, which is less than one mile away. Wine connoisseurs will enjoy the Winery at Holy Cross Abbey, three miles from the hotel. Numerous outdoor recreational activities are available in the surrounding area. There are several restaurants, attractions, parks and shopping opportunities within walking distance. All this and much more await guests visiting the area. Guests of this hotel are invited to enjoy the free breakfast with hot waffles, featuring bagels, muffins, doughnuts, raisin bread, hot and cold cereals, fruit, coffee, milk and juice. Room smelled musty and moldy, had to go to Walmart and buy Lysol and air freshener. Had to spray the room every couple of hours to be able to stand being in it. Also bought pillows as the ones provided were awful.

The room smelled of urine (cat pee, to be precise) - it was rather unpleasant. The pillows are small and uncomfortable. You can buy better pillows at Walmart for $4.

It was in a good location in reference to the Royal Gorge train.
Negatives:
No elevator, and the hotel is in desperate need of a little TLC and an elevator. The continental breakfast was ok but I didn't eat much because the food looked like it was packaged in the 60's. Not sure how long the bread sits around before it is put out for guests to eat. Also the remote would not turn the TV off, so I had to turn it off manually. The remote didn't work the TV at all actually.
