Positives:
Liked the location, the updated rooms, large bathroom. I had stayed at the Madera several years ago but the rooms were older and somewhat darker, so it was good to see things had been updated. Service at front desk was great, kudos to the staff there and in restaurant. Appreciated the HH cocktail which was included. Overall pleased with our brief stay!
Negatives:
I'm a bit sensitive to smells and have recently noticed that many hotels use a type of cleaning product that gives me headaches and in some cases migraines. Madera had such product that smelled odd upon entry. Only one elevator was in service and don't love hotels, of which there are a few in DC area, that have stairs leading up to elevators so you must lift your luggage. I don't travel heavy to DC but think it inconvenient for travelers who are older or have larger suitcases. We also could hear the elevator - at least we think that is what the noise was -- from our room which we found odd because we weren't that close to elevators. It went on through the night and put in ear plugs to fall asleep.

Great location, very clean, comfortable bed, fairly spacious room and bathroom.
Negatives:
The AC was somewhat noisy, had frequent on/off cycles, and was a bit smelly. The ventilation as a whole didn't seem well thought-out.

This was a lovely hotel near Dupont Circle. The room was large enough to accommodate 4 of us and had everything that we needed. There is a metro station very nearby which was handy for getting to Downtown Washington (although it is not far to walk either). There are lovely places for breakfast and dinner nearby. We ate breakfast in the hotel one morning and it was very good. Jorge in reception was really friendly and helpful with tips for where to go. He always welcomed us with a bottle of cold water when we came back to the hotel after sightseeing.
Negatives:
Just a very small thing, only one of the two lifts was working and we were staying on the top floor so it was a bit slow getting up or down!
