One step up from bugs

I didn’t like that when I pulled up to the building (at 2am, after 10 hours of driving), two very sketchy looking people (not in any kind of uniform or work outfit) were leaned against a car with no license plate. When I went to walk in one of them asked if I was checking in and when I said yes he informed me that there were no rooms available. Even though we had booked it a week in advance. He told me he could not honor my reservation and when I asked where I was supposed to sleep he shrugged. Then the guy he was with offered for us to stay in his hotel, which was incredibly creepy. When we finally did find a hotel it was 4am and the front desk person was appalled that we didn’t even receive a call from the other hotel saying they overbooked.
