The free breakfast was nice to have as an option, but it left a lot to be desired. The staff was generally friendly and helpful. No issues there. But the best part about our stay was leaving the hotel.
Negatives:
This hotel was the dirtiest, creepiest place I’ve ever stayed in. The room reeked of nicotine and mildew. There was years of grimy buildup coating every surface, the carpet felt damp, and the AC was covered in a thick layer of dust. The door had clearly been broken into, as the door jam was hastily fixed with plywood. There was no deadbolt on the door or peephole, and we felt so uneasy that we pushed the armchair up against the door as a barricade. All of this would be somewhat reasonable if the price fit the experience, but, with taxes and fees, we ended up paying $140 for the night. Absolutely ridiculous. 0/10 would not recommend.

This was the worst hotel...
Positives:
Staff was great - super friendly and helpful. The breakfast was a typical hotel/motel breakfast - nothing amazing, but not bad. The metro station was also only about a 5 min walk away, which was convenient if you plan to use it.
Negatives:
The facilities were extremely outdated. The door lock was not very secure (the handle was loose). The sink didn't have any hot water at first, but then I realized they closed the hot water line because it leaked, so if I wanted hot water I had to manually open the line to use it and close it afterwards. I probably would not stay at this hotel again - I would pay the extra to stay at a more mid-level hotel.

Positives:
1) The hotel is very close to a train station from which I reached the city centre within 15min. 2) The room is very quiet in spite of that the hotel is right next to a big road. 3) The room has desk and chair which are suitable for me to work for a few hours every evening. 4) The hotel has a washing machine and a tumble dryer which were very convenient for me as I stayed in the hotel for nearly one month.
Negatives:
The room was not the most "fancy" ones that I have stayed although it was perfectly fine for my work-related stay. It appears that the neighbourhood did not have the most positive reputation (e.g. dangerous) - however, I never had any problem for the entire one month that I stayed there. The hotel staff also told me that the neighbourhood became much safer in the last decade or so.

The location near the train station was convenient. Don't be afraid of the South Side. Just be afraid of this hotel.
Negatives:
The WiFi sucked. It would go in and out. The TV wouldn't land on any of the channels as they were labeled. For example, CNN wasn't CNN and instead, was a cooking channel. There were NO news channels except for Fox News, so there were NO news channels. Two things I need to work on the road is WiFi and TV news and this hotel had neither.
The sink faucet was falling apart.
There is zero housekeeping. If you need anything, like towels and shampoo, you have to go to the office. There was only one bar of soap in my room when I checked in, no shampoo.
I will not stay here again.

A cheap motel

Staff were all very friendly and helpful where they could be.
Negatives:
This is more of a motel than an inn. The room smelled musty and smelly, the bed sheets and thin blanket had stains, we only had 2 bath towels for 4 people and it took multiple requests to get the extra towels. The shuttle service is a minivan - the van was clean and fine, but don't expect an actual shuttle. Breakfast is free but sub-par - potatoes were a clumpy gruel. 5 min walk to the L - orange line, but you have to cross a major busy street twice. You get what you pay for. The staff are friendly and will try to help as much as they can, but they have many limitations.
