Right in West Loop surrounded by many restaurants and shops

The front desk staff did not check with me if I have a reservation directly from them or through other booking agent,they just took my credit card and did not tell me any details when I checked out, they didn’t ask me if I’d like to have a receipt. A week later I saw on my credit card transaction that they charged me a full amount of the stay even though it was already paid in full way in advance prior to the stay. I had to take my time to call the accounting office to receive a refund. I thought it was unprofessional for the kind of hotel.

Positives:
Very minimalistic, yet sophisticated property in the best japanese traditions. Beautifully decorated and extremely spacious room with great views, in-room wooden bath with all the required necessities gives a feeling of staying at onsen, which helps if you'd rather be in Japan, but are stuck in Chicago :) Small, but well-maintained sauna and swimming pool on the ground floor - both were completely empty during my stay. Nobu restaurant is on the first floor, the food is amazing as always! Try their fatty tuna tartar with caviar - you won't regret it!

Unfortunately upon arrival we realized there was festival happening (Taste of Randalph) that had music blaring during our entire stay and until 3-4 am. Though we paid for a premium Zen Relaxation suite, our room was on a low floor directly facing the festival and the noise was unbearable even with white noise playing from my phone. While the staff and manager were very apologetic the next morning and reduced our invoice to compensate us, I wanted to flag this issue for other future guests — make sure to inquire whether any major events are happening in the area and see whether the hotel can accommodate you in advance so you can enjoy the 5 star experience you are paying for and expecting.

We stayed in a zen suite and it was NOT zen. For the price we paid, I would never go back. We spent $2300 CAD for just two nights. Although the suite was spacious, we could hear EVERYTHING in our neighbors room. We had awful sleeps because we could hear so much noise from the street level and our neighbors fought all night. The lighting in the room was way too dim, we couldnt see anything. We would have to open all of our window blinds to have enough light except we were literally looking onto the hotels HVAC roofing system which was not pleasant(no other view than this) and would have to close the blinds since people were on the roof. We were also there on a weekend and were disappointed to hear that the rooftop was not open until 5pm on the Saturday. It was a gorgeous day out and would have been nice to have that access. NOT worth the price at all and left disappointed.
