Great location for exploring Chicago
Positives:
This historic hotel is in the heart of the city—very beautiful, with antique interiors and wonderful decor. My room was small and a bit dark but this reflects the the older standards and points to the luxury we are used to nowadays. I was quite content with the service; my room was clean and had everything I needed.
Negatives:
The moment I arrived at the registration desk, I told the staff member that I booked through Booking.com. They found my name and checked me in but charged me an amount over $200 higher than my booking app showed. On top of it, the hotel also charges a $25+tax/day destination fee that they claim you can use at the restaurant/spa/laundry services. I did not use the discount as I was already worried about all the unexplained charges, but a friend from the conference said the discount didn't work at the restaurant, and she got charged for her meal. These fees have been the subject of FTC lawsuits in the USA. Going back to being charged more than on booking.com–I had to go talk to the desk twice during my four-day stay and explain the situation, which was upsetting considering how much money I paid for my stay (over 1k for three nights). The staff was understanding and polite but did not seem qualified to know or be able to reverse the charge. I was lucky that at the checkout, I encountered a more experienced management person who corrected my bill, and I received a refund for all the unexplained charges. It's upsetting that customers have to be constantly vigilant about being taken advantage of by big companies.

Beautiful Hotel but be careful...
Positives:
So many great things to say: the lobby is exquisite, the coffee shop is delish, and so much more!
Negatives:
The center elevator bank was very slow-moving, and sometimes it wouldn't stop on the Lobby or Street Levels after multiple times of going up and down.

A place to feel special...
Positives:
Great downtown location. Friendly staff. Was delivered a complimentary coffe machine to my room.
Negatives:
I did not like getting fined and having to pay a "destination fee". Undisclosed,at time of booking, non negotiable charges are unacceptable in my opinion. Was locked out of my room because the hotel refused to accept my virtual credit card that I booked the room with. It accepted that as final payment for the room but I needed to provide an actual credit card for "incedentals" before I could reenter my room .
