Firstly, the only link between rooftop bar and hotel is the building. The rooftop bar is only reason we booked Aliz and it is not run by the hotel, it is an entirely different business.
Guests must be over 21 yrs to access the rooftop so if you're travelling with guests aged less than 21 yrs, you'll need to split to access the bar otherwise "come back for a tour" between 1-2 (or 1-3 or 2-3, who knows! No one gave a consistent answer). Also, you need to line up with the public to be granted access to rooftop as not available with room key.
Lobby area is so small, it quickly becomes cramped with line for checking in, checking out, rooftop and those using cocktail bar. Only a few seats in centre to sit down.
Rooms are SO SMALL so international travellers with one checked bag size suitcase will struggle let alone a family of 4 with two.
No washing machine unless you do valet or take your clothes to laundromat, but this seems common for NY hotels.
Elevators are so slow aswell. After 4, you're competing for lifts with the public using the rooftop.
Luggage storage was a sectioned off area in lounge.
Restaurant was nothing to rave about.
We checkout early and found something that gave our family the ability to sit somewhere together to rest with fresh air rather than in a cramped room. Manager understood the situation and tried to help us a little. Upper east side location offerer bigger rooms, quieter, cental location and much cleaner than times square.
Pet peeve, no slippers in room as advertised and the toiletries were smaller than pictured but free.
Overall, the description of hotel did not match the impression given. Overrated.
