The location was amazing, located about 10 min walk from Central Park and next to a bunch of nice restaurants, bakeries, cafes. The area was quiet and night and very safe. The front desk staff were friendly and accommodating.
Negatives:
The cleaning was abysmal. When I entered my room there was a bar of used soap with a hair on it in the shower. I found stains on my sheets on three consecutive nights (I eventually stopped asking them to change them - what’s the point?). One day I came back at 7pm and my room simply hadn’t been cleaned. The hardware was also old - the air conditioner rattled very loudly (68 decibels, I actually checked at one point as I was lying awake unable to sleep from the noise) and the tap took 5+ minutes to heat up.

Positives:
I liked a lot of the staff at the front desk, very nice, very attentive and kind. There were good coffee and breakfast places at walking distance. I appreciate specially that it wasn't in a noisy area of NYC, I think that if you actually wanna sleep this is a good place to stay.
Negatives:
The decoration of the rooms was a bit strange to me, not what I was expecting. I guess I didn't really look at the pictures. The elevators were also a bit small. The doorman was never there to help or open the door.

Great neighborhood and lobby but...
Positives:
GREAT location--two blocks from the 1 train and five blocks from the express 2 and 3 trains. Tons of restaurants, bars, drugstores, etc. within a few blocks of the hotel. The bar in the hotel is good--pleasant sitting area but of course the drinks are a bit pricey (there are Happy Hour prices, though). The rooms are bigger than expected for a NYC hotel. Pillows were a bit soft for me but the bed was comfortable. The A/C in the room and hotel is fantastic. All staff members I encountered were friendly and kind.

Staff not great - I am used to staying at Marriott brand hotels. The service at this hotel is not even close to the level at Marriott's 3 star hotels. Bill was wrong. Had to contact them several times. Finally got a corrected bill but they put through an extra charge on my card that I am waiting for them to fix.
