Located in the former George Washington Hotel, once home to many storied writers, musicians and creatives, the Freehand New York features five restaurant and bars, a custom art partnership with Bard College, and design by Roman and Williams. Location is great! Staff was great!
Negatives:
Room/bathroom was very dark. Made it difficult to put on make up. The bathroom was extra tiny. The sink was smaller than my laptop. When I washed my face water got all over the floor. The carpeting was ripping and looked very old. Dust and grime in the corners of the bathroom floor.

The room was super comfortable with a lot of space (Premium Queen). The bathroom was also spacious with all the basic amenities provided. It was close to Lower East Side but the commute wasn't very convenient.
Negatives:
The room was facing the street and although I was on the 12th floor it was super noisy, day and night. The corridors were poorly lit and someone was smoking in one of the rooms so it was quite smelly.

I need coffee making facilities in the room. I had to bring my own kettle and ask for paper cups. No glasses to drink water from - seems odd (cheap?) for a boutique hotel. The fridge was also the smallest I’ve ever experienced - really not worth it. I also don’t rate the bed design - keep cracking ankles on the wood surround Also the USB chargers by the bed didn’t work.
