Located in the former George Washington Hotel, once home to many storied writers, musicians and creatives, the Freehand New York features five restaurant and bars, a custom art partnership with Bard College, and design by Roman and Williams. The front desk staff was extremely rude. When we checked in, the girl at the desk was so dismissive. We did not even get a “hello”, she just told me to take my ID and a credit card out. She then said “your room number is ___”. I️ did not learn any other information about the hotel or my stay. I️ had to go on the website to find out that there was a $200 deposit being charged to my card (which is fine, but you would think the front desk people would tell you instead of just ask for a card) and for little things like WiFi password or to find out if they even offer breakfast. Extremely unprofessional. That interaction automatically turned me away from ever coming back, and made me want to share with others what happened as well.

Easily accessible from subway, it was nice that there was a steamer in the room, and the rooftop bar was very cool.
Negatives:
AC didn’t really work. Set to 70 and room was 77. Shower curtain too small for the shower and the water went everywhere. Mattress was uncomfortable.
