Positives: The hotel is in a good location - close to the subway, Penn Station, and you can walk to many attractions (including Times Square, Empire State Building). Very good location for sightseeing in Manhattan. The rooms are rather clean, but they are cleaned every other day.
Negatives: However, you have to have your expectations built up to use this hotel. The elevators are slow and sometimes you have to wait a long time (there are only two and at one point one of them did not work at all). American breakfasts with very little variety - personally I did not like them at all and preferred nearby restaurants with breakfast. The breakfast area in the hotel was rather small, and I did not see anyone cleaning it after guests (guests took and threw trash in the bin themselves, or not...). The room was very small. The air conditioner was very loud and had to be turned off to sleep normally. The room key stopped working twice. The hotel staff was not very helpful or polite - they did not fulfill requests addressed to them several times. The day before check-out, the toilet in the room clogged and no one came to fix it. After check-out, the hotel wanted to wrongly charge for allegedly drunk bottles of water that the hotel leaves in the room (they are paid).

Positives: The breakfast had a lot of variety and it was delicious. We enjoyed it a lot.
Negatives: The guys in the reception were not very polite. They didn't even give us attention when we were getting in. Plus, in the room, they only gave us 2 bottles of water the 1st day of our stay and we had to pay 3$ for a third bottle (we were 3 in the room), and then nothing! We had to pay for the bottles of water. They had free water in some floors, but it was not good at all.

Positives: Staff were very helpful. Location fantastic. Breakfast being included made it good value for money. Good selection at breakfast. Room was clean, air con good and shower good.
Negatives: Dining area extremely busy at breakfast. Our room had two double beds so no drawers for storage - we had to live out of our cases. Only two lifts so sometimes a long wait.

Positives: The break fast and room was fine for the rate we paid. Most guests seemed to only stay a night or two. We were there for nearly two weeks so the room felt small dark and oppressive after a few days.
Negatives: Bigger wardrobe. Generally more room. Not sure of we could have just booked a bigger room. Often getting up and down in elevators could take a long time.

Positives: Location was good, especially if you take a train or bus as we did (7min walk to Penn Station). Room was Clean and beds were ok. Air con did its job.
Negatives: We stayed only one night after Hampton Inn Brooklyn and it was not our best experience. Breakfast area was small and not so clean (maybe because of other guests), staff was not very pleasant, not even smiling which is rare in the US. Bathroom was old and in bad shape

Positives: Very convenient location, and decent room size for a double bed (we had originally booked a room for four but got allocated 2 separate rooms, which actually helped)
Negatives: The breakfast was atrociously poor for the a mount of money paid, complete mayhem with no staff visible as guests waited for this as simple as plates/dishes ,bread, batter for waffles etc. cheap paper plates and bowls, plastic cutlery and overall mismanaged system.
