Positives: The only thing exceptional about the hotel is the restaurant; but I found it is independently owned and although they serve meals for the hotel, they are in actual fact a separate entity altogether; the reason I asked was because the restaurant is a genuine 5 star whereas the hotel itself was a real let down and I couldn’t understand the great service in the restaurant (Cognac) in comparison to the horrible service of the hotel. I think the worst was coming from an amazing visit at the Nassau hotel in Miami, where everything superseded our expectations to this. Such a big let down!!!
Negatives: Honestly this was the worst hotel I had ever been to, and I mean as in anywhere around the world!!! The cost is completely unjustifiable and this is hardly a 4star hotel; maybe a 3 star at best. The worst was that they charged my credit card a month before our check-in date even though I chose the option to “pay nothing until you get to the property” and you pay extra for this option, but low and behold they charged my credit card a whole month prior to our visit. I called the hotel because my bank had flagged the charge as fraudulent; but because Rachel had apologised profusely on behalf of the hotel I decided not to take it further. She promised to make sure that we get a cheese platter on arrival; but safe to say that did not materialise. The staff is taught to lie at the drop of a hat; most times unnecessarily so. I told them that we had booked a specific room through bookings.com and she flat out told me that the room I booked does not exist and that Bookings.com had somehow photoshopped the images of the rooms they have. She said I should have gone through their website to ensure that the room I was booking was an actual room and not relied on “3rd party advertising”, referring to Bookings.com; safe to say that I have used Bookings.com multiple times throughout my travels and never have I had such a trashy experience!!! We asked them to please fix the broken air vent; because our room was cold, they said the engineer would be right up; that was around 11pm. And because by then we had come to expect such atrocious service… The “engineer” came promptly as expected the next day at 11am!!! I can’t understand the logic behind the blatant lies??? The high speed internet you are charged for; is another lie!!! It’s ridiculous. I have never given a bad review before; but 48Lex New York has pulled it out from deep within me!!! They really are the worst

Positives: the room itself was good and of decent size, the bed is actually comfortable. what I really liked the bathroom in terms of space, comfort and the generous size of the stand in shower - the water pressure and temperature were way below what is required.
Negatives: 1- I was charged more than the confirmation amount, the "extra" deposit, which until today have not been refunded, is just highway robbery. this falls both on the hotel for not declaring it during the booking process, an on booking.com because obviously you are complicit in hiding this information, a cheap trick to make the room appear less expensive than it really is. 2- I noticed very clear signs of "less than diligent" effort to clean the common space, the floor hallways you can easily notice they were not properly vacuum cleaned. 3- very annoying night noise - from within the hotel - mechanical of some sort. I do not know if that was temporary during my stay, but that is not what one expects at such hotels and without warning. 4- best for last - the fron desk staff - I HAVE NOT ENCOUNTERED A STAFF WITH LESS TACT IN THE HOTEL INDUSTRY. FRONT DESK EMPLOYEE GIVING THE GUEST ATTITUDE BECAUSE I QUESTIONED THE NEED FOR THE UNDECLARED DEPOST. EXTREMLY BAD ATTITUDE, I WOULD ACTULLY FILE A COMPLAINT AT THE BETTER BUSINENESS BUREAU.

Positives: The hotel is really well located with restaurants and bars within a short distance. We mainly walked everywhere and took a day tour so can't comment on the subway but I'm sure it was close by. Great patisseire accross the road. We were upgraded to a deluxe room which was great. The room itself and the bathroom were specious and as we were on a high floor the views were wonderful. The breakfast is served in the adjoining bar/restaurant, which although only had limited al la carte choice, it was all you needed and the quality was very good. Friendly and helpful staff. We would definitely stay again when in NY.
Negatives: Due to the breakfast being served in the restaurant next door, your account is charged for the fixed $25 p/p breakfast, then a credit of $25 per room/per day is offset. You actually end up paying for one person's breakfast, so be aware of this if you book with 'breakfast included'. Not sure if this was an ongoing policy or we were just caught out.
