Positives:
The location is very good for our purpose. We can not say the surroundings are perfect but it is NY as it is.
Negatives:
The bathroom is very small... And there occurred an accident with the water supply during our stay, which is surely not the hotel's fault. However, after the water supply resumed for a while, at a certain point, there was no hot water for half an hour and we were explained that all the guests must have been using showers and thus we need to wait for a while, which seems ridiculous for a hotel in Times Square district.

Positives:
- The room was decent sized for NYC (2 big suitcases could fit into the room no problem). Some people here expect a suite or 5-star hotel for a cheap price, but this is one of the most expensive cities to visit. In fact pricing was very competitive and cheaper than most hotels despite us booking only 2 days before our stay.
- Very fast lifts
- AC very strong and easy to use and fridge is always on/cold which is great for the summer
- Rooms cleaned every day and spotless!!
- Daily cookies/free drinks at the lobby and free breakfast
- Quiet and soundproof rooms, we were on the 17th floor and heard nothing
- Hotel card needed to enter lobby which is a good safety plus
- Good transport links for both JFK and touristy places
Negatives:
- The location while central is extremely dirty and smells very bad, lots of homeless people around, narrow streets and cars honking non-stop.
- $200 deposit should be made clearer at booking. Pre-authorization is also the cost of the first night which is a lot of money and depending on your card may take time to be refunded (you still pay for all nights including first night when checking in, expect an additional $400+ on top of your original booking price)
- Shower pressure very weak, however rain shower was excellent and made up for it
- Bathroom door never closes properly and there is nowhere to put toiletries except for a small glass ledge

Positives:
The hotel itself is great - spotlessly clean, the bed was very very comfortable, and all the staff I interacted with were really nice. It's in a perfect location too, being right in the heart of the city with all manner of stuff within walking distance. Even the free breakfast, whilst not extensive in options, was alright.
Negatives:
It may be worth noting that as well as the $200 fee they charge on check-in in case of room damage, if you choose to pay at the property rather than on booking, they charge your card the full cost of the first night's stay (in my case over $200) as a security deposit to ensure your card is valid the day before you check-in. You are then charged again on check-in for the full cost of the stay and have the 'security deposit' released to your bank within a few days.
All in I ended up paying around $450 more than expected with both the security deposit and the damage deposit, a lot of money, which caught me out and may catch you out too if you're not aware of it as I can only see the damage deposit mentioned on the listing here.

The treatment we received when we arrived was very unpleasant. The receptionist didn't even say welcome. Extreme impatience. The receptionist scolded us when we asked where they would keep the luggage until we got the room. When we didn't understand his question the first time, he got really angry and spoke condescendingly. A lack of courtesy that I have never met in a hotel. We asked for a map of the area and he said there was none. In the evening when we arrived the reception employee was replaced by someone else, we asked for a map and an explanation of where we were and he helped us and slightly improved the overall unpleasant feeling when we arrived.
