Exceptional
Positives:
The location was excellent, central to everything, walking distance to theaters, Central park, and major landmarks. Very accessible with public transportation too. We were very impressed with the attention from the reception upon arrival. Michael, at the reception did his best to find a corner room with an excellent view of St. Patrick's cathedral and the city line. The concierge was very helpful too. Lastly, not to be missed, the guided tour of the Villard houses full of history of the hotel and the gilded age of New York city.
Negatives:
We didn't enjoy the breakfast. The quality was poor and tasteless. We were expecting better quality and better service for the value spent.

Very poor greeting from reception on arrival after a long flight. No ‘welcome’ or friendliness. Didn’t advise they’d be charging my card for extras on advance, just swiped my card. View from ‘superior room’ was appalling - staring at a concrete wall - nothing like the picture on the booking site at all!

Gorgeous historic details every where you look. I loved the unexpected delight of finding a nice set of wingback immediately past the courtyard - given it was raining on several occasions it gave us a place to enjoy the sounds and sounds of the neighborhood.
