We loved our stay at the Sentinel. The staff were polite, friendly, and went above and beyond for us. We were celebrating our anniversary, and they had amazing cupcakes delivered to our room, which was a thoughtful touch.
The hotel was gorgeous, very tastefully decorated. Our room was large, clean, and comfortable.
We dined once in the bar, which, to my surprise and delight, had a totally vegan menu, and once in the restaurant. I am vegan, but my husband is not, so it can sometimes be a challenge to find somewhere classy that suits both of us. The staff at Jake's grill were knowledgeable about the options and we both had a fabulous meal.
Negatives:
Rooms that faced onto the tram line could be noisy at times

Positives:
I love the bed and had a good night's sleep which was just what I needed after several days of travelling. The pillows were so fluffy and the mattress felt so comfortable. I love the toiletries as well especially the bath gel.
The decor of the room is very tasteful. The old school radio is a nice touch.
The location of the hotel is very ideal as it is close to restaurants and shops.
Negatives:
I was expecting complimentary bottled water, as well as a dental kit and bedroom slippers, which are regular amenities in a hotel like this.

Everything away from the Sentinel...

It had a roof and a bed.

Motel 6 quality room and amenities. Our towels were dirty and the makeup wiping one had skin flakes on it. Yuck. They refused to let us valet park. Our point of contact sent me to 4 parking garages that were not open. Wasted 2hrs of my time on our wedding night. When I expressed my frustration and asked for assistance again, she got her manager to block me from contacting them. It's a scam. Rooms are $90/night quality. Staff is rude and unhelpful. They don't provide services that you pay for. Actual waste of $400.

Positives:
The room was very clean and elegant, but everything that was there was artificial. like books, and the "library" that they show in one of the pictures is just a small space that is only for pictures, you can't go there.
Negatives:
The hotel was located at the heart of portland, which was a struggle because the streets was one direction, so when I saw the hotel, was too late, so we need to make a long U turn, to get it back and park the car.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Sentinel. We had a great room on the sixth floor with the fireplace and skylights. The bed was super comfortable and the bathroom was huge. The were helpful and check-in was smooth. It’s a beautiful historic but quirky hotel.
