The location. I had a grandchild in the Children's Hospital. I wasn't in the room a lot. It was close to some very nice restaurant's.

The 3rd floor had a very musty smell when I checked in. The smell improved on day two and was almost gone on day three. Very unpleasant initially. The air conditioning was not working.

Walked into a staff meeting where the manager was telling employees they could no longer eat breakfast, tacky and unprofessional.

Positives:
The location was generally convenient and the room was perfectly fine inside.
Negatives:
I arrived at about 1:30am after a long flight from the West Coast. When I arrived, I was told that my room was no longer available. The person behind the counter said something about how the manager was supposed to call everyone to see if they were still coming during the day and that they canceled the rooms of people who he didn't get in touch with. I have never heard of this practice for a room someone has a reservation for--it is only rational that you aren't going to be able to get in touch with someone who is en route on an airplane! She tried to call several other hotels but found that they were all booked. At this point I said they needed to do something--I was relying on THIS room when I got on a plane from the other side of the country and had nowhere else to sleep. She said the last option was to stay in a room with a dead keycard lock--I wouldn't be able to get back into the room if I left. Since this was the only option I said that would be fine. The next morning I called the front desk and they acted shocked that there was someone in a room with a dead lock--maintenance came and was going off about how the room shouldn't have been rented. I said that I was grateful to have had somewhere to stay (in fact, the overnight clerk who was resourceful enough to get that solution was my staff MVP of Hampton Inn!). They were eventually able to replace the lock's battery and from then on the stay was more or less normal (other than WiFi signal in my room that was so weak it didn't function at all on my laptop). Luckily I didn't end up sleeping on the street, but this was a frankly shocking experience. This is not how to run a hotel! When someone makes a reservation, they are relying on you, particularly at a hotel in an area that is going to have a high volume of out-of-state travelers. I will also be entering a complaint with the Hilton Group, but I thought Bookin.com should know about this experience as well.
