Positives:
The staff was super friendly and accommodating, very knowledgeable. Continental breakfast was as expected had the normal items. Free wifi and free parking in gated lot. Great price for 2 nights compared to surrounding locations.
Negatives:
Room was missing smoke alarm and it took about 15 minutes to get the hot water through the pipes to take a shower. Room was clean though. Loud neighbors and there's no code to let pedestrians through the gate to the complex. If anyone has visitors they have to physically walk out to the front of the building with roomkey to let them drive through the gate or allow foot access to parking area. ATM in the lobby was just a decoration, we had to walk 5 blocks to pull out cash.

Breakfast was pretty good, should have been able to take it to our room.

Very cold. Heater took forever to warm up and I’m not sure it ever got to the temperature we had set.
Door trim in the bathroom was broken and coming off the frame. Tub was dirty.

Positives:
At first I was concerned because it's literally a gated hotel, but it's absolutely secure. I even saw another guest who was a mountain-biker and he had his bikes on the back of his truck overnight. I will admit there are some homeless people in the area, but again the property is fenced and I never once felt unsafe. I took my dog for a walk in the neighborhood, and even walked to the gas station down the street after dark. I've stayed in worse hotels for more money--this one surely exceeded my expectations.
Also in a nice central location -- if you don't walk to the park, it's a short drive--just google map it. :) Needless to say, they accept dogs and the nightly fee is affordable.
Everything in the room, the lobby and the breakfast area seemed new, like they recently remodeled. It was great. Really quality service and facility. I would definitely stay here again.

Great place to stay for a few nights in Salt Lake City! The room was clean and comfortable, and staff was super nice. The location is also great, and the gated parking means there’s nothing to worry about. I don’t understand why this place has such bad reviews. Maybe it used to be bad, but I’d totally recommend City Creek Inn and stay again the next time I’m in Salt Lake.
