Very good
Positives:
It was a great location
Negatives:
Not the best view from my room

Positives:
Location, valet parking.
Negatives:
Room was much smaller than images suggested, shockingly so for the cost. No counter space in bathroom, and water temperature only ran tepid, not hot.
The air-conditioning was so loud it woke us periodically through the night.
Hotel added a 10% "service charge" to valet's tip. The rooftop bar closed at 9pm and turned away customers, which is unheard of. Overall a very puzzling, uncomfortable and unpleasant experience.
Review
Overpriced and uncomfortable.
Positives:
Nice interior. Like the quirkiness.
Negatives:
Rooms are quite small. The airconditioner is insanely loud and either freezing or not cold enough.

Great location
Positives:
I love the pet friendliness (though the fee is high) and fresh, clean décor of the Graduate hotels, including this one in Madison. The staff is very courteous.
Negatives:
The add-on fees for parking and pets increased the cost of my stay by half, which seems excessive. The rooftop bar/restaurant is really for the college kids all around the hotel - not the guests at the hotel. It was too overrun even in July (school not yet in session) to make any use of the free drink voucher they hand out at check-in. The restaurant also gave way to the drink-a-thon atmosphere of the bar and closed early - which was very disappointing after driving 13+ hours that day in anticipation of an easy-to-access dinner before bedtime.

A Fresh Place to Stay...

Positives:
The Graduate was a perfect place for us to stay for 1 night due to the location, the aesthetic and the hotel staff. As an alumna, I took a quick trip to Madison to show my children where I went to university, and it was the perfect place to stay. We could easily get to key university points - Memorial Union, Library Mall, State Street, Bascom Hill, etc. In the morning we took a lovely walk on the Lakeshore Path, and enjoyed scenic views of Lake Mendota. The cafe and restaurant also provide a fun atmosphere. If you are pressed for time, and want to see many of the university spots, I highly recommend this hotel.
