Positives:
The hotel is in an excellent location on Nob Hill however there is little else around and it is quite a walk (up very steep hills) to bars and restaurants. The hotel itself celebrates its glamourous past and feels welcoming and spacious. The room was quite large, the decor was a little old fashioned but the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was clean and there was a coffee machine and fridge. I would say the price was a little high for the quality of accommodation provided.
Negatives:
The biggest disappointment was the "Top of the Mark" cocktail lounge which promised all the glitz and glamour of the hotel's heyday. Unfortunately the bar used in the advertisements has been removed, there was a $10 per head charge to even sit in the bar, which was furnished with basic tables and chairs that you might find in an average social club. The room was very cold and the bar staff were quite rude. This was meant to be one of the highlights of our stay and we left very unimpressed.
