Positives:
I chose this hotel based on the location and the price. We were visiting family in Waukee over Labor Day weekend and the Sleep Inn-Waukee was very convenient to get to from I-80 and from our family's home. The exercise room offered more options than the typical treadmill and bike. There were also exercise balls, medicine balls, and a wide variety of hand weights. The breakfast was consistently good with a variety of choices and the area was kept clean and well-stocked even though there were a lot of guests. The hotel is dog-friendly and I must have seen 10 different dogs over the weekend, but never heard any barking from our room. One woman brought her dog into the breakfast area and the breakfast room attendant was very polite in telling the guest that the dog was not allowed and offered to take care of the dog while the guest got some breakfast. The attendant took the dog for a tour of the 1st floor introducing him to other staff along the way .
Negatives:
The door to the room that we were assigned at check-in did not close securely. We reported that to the front desk and were promptly assigned another room. However, we also noticed that the exterior side door to the hotel also did not latch securely so it could be opened without using a guest room card. While the hotel is not in a high-crime area, more attention could be given to guest security.
